For families, a golf cart is very convenient. Lily and Ethan loved riding in the back, pointing out all the colorful houses and palm trees. It’s recommended to start your exploration early in the morning, perhaps before 10:00 am, to avoid the peak heat and humidity.
You can rent golf carts and scooters all over Playa Norte. Circumnavigating the entire five-mile island can take about two hours, but you’ll definitely want to plan for more time to make stops and enjoy the scenery. It’s a very relaxed way to see everything.

The average high temperature is around 83 degrees Fahrenheit (28.33 Celsius). If you visit in February or March, you can experience the Isla Carnival, a five-day festival filled with dancing, parades, and performances.
January through April is the high season, offering the best weather but also the highest prices. For better deals, consider visiting between May and December. The low season, from September to November, offers the best prices but coincides with hurricane season, meaning you should be prepared for more rainfall, with October being the wettest month.
Getting to and Around
Ferry Services
Most visitors arrive on Isla Mujeres via the Gran Puerto Cancun ferry dock in Puerto Juarez, which is just a short distance from downtown Cancun. Ultramar ferry boats depart every half hour from 5 a.m. until 9:30 p.m., with hourly service afterward. The crossing itself takes only 15 minutes.
