Adventure Awaits At Cinnamon Hakuraa Huraa Resort

In November 2025, Cinnamon Hakuraa Huraa Maldives became one of the few resorts in the country to convert its entire footprint — every villa, restaurant, and deck — to adults-only 18+. The move turned a long-running 4-star family property into a 5-star retreat for couples, divers, and anyone who values genuine hospitality over theatrical luxury.

The resort sits in Meemu Atoll, a 45-minute seaplane ride from Velana International Airport. Its lagoon is one of the largest and shallowest in the Maldives — stunning at sunset, but too shallow for shore snorkeling. The resort runs two complimentary boat trips to nearby reefs each day to compensate. That trade-off (beautiful lagoon vs. boat-required snorkeling) is the central thing to understand before you book.

Water Villas, Beach Bungalows, and the Platinum Enclave

Every overwater room at Hakuraa Huraa includes a glass floor panel — you can watch reef sharks and rays pass beneath without leaving the room. The 70 Water Bungalows sit over the lagoon on the main island, each with a private deck and direct ocean access. The 10 Beach Bungalows on the main island give you direct sand access and more privacy, with lush vegetation between units. The 20 Platinum Beach Bungalows sit on a connected adults-only enclave — the original adults-only section before the full resort converted. Platinum guests get their own pool, the Manzaru restaurant, and the Vevu pool bar, while still being free to use main-island facilities.

Room tips from guest reviews carry weight here. Room 301 at the end of the jetty offers more water space. Rooms 330 and above face sunset. Avoid the area around Room 320, where generator noise has been reported. Room 355 has been called “incredible with a view to die for” by multiple guests. On Platinum Island, bungalows 401–409 offer the most beach and the best lagoon views. Bungalows 412–413 have eroded beachfront. Bungalow 416 is frequently described as having a fabulous stretch of sand.

Note: None of the 100 villas has a private pool — a notable trade-off at this price point. Each island has a common pool instead.

Four Restaurants, Two Bars, and a Themed Night Every Evening

The main buffet restaurant, Malaafaiy, runs breakfast, lunch, and dinner with nine different sections including cold rooms, spicy zones, and fresh cooking areas. Themed nights rotate through Sri Lankan, Indian, Italian, Lebanese, and Greek cuisines. Live cooking stations handle eggs, pancakes, stir-fries, burgers, and tacos. The Maldivian theme night is widely considered the best buffet of the week. Vegetarian and dietary needs are well accommodated — chefs prepare dishes on request.

Corals Restaurant (formerly the Crab Restaurant) is the à la carte evening venue with an underwater-themed interior and a menu that moves through global flavours with a French accent. Dinner only. Wine selection has enough range to make the meal feel properly considered. The steak and lobster thermidor receive consistent praise. A meal for two runs approximately $200–400. Drinks at Corals are not included even on the Premium All-Inclusive plan.

Summer Restaurant & Bar opened in late November 2025 as part of the 5-star relaunch. It’s a beachfront grill with Louisiana-inspired cooking — smoke, char, and heat. Flame-grilled dishes, burgers, and generous plates suit the beachside setup. Ceiling fans overhead, light shifting across sand — lunch here can stretch well past its intended time. Manzaru Restaurant is reserved for Platinum Beach Bungalow guests, serving casual international dishes in a tropical setting on the Platinum Island enclave. Dinner only — guests book through their villa attendant.

Two bars round out the drinking options: Veli Bar on the main island poolside, with nightly entertainment and a louder evening scene, and Vevu Bar, the quieter pool bar reserved for Platinum guests.

Snorkeling, Diving, and the Reality of the Lagoon

The lagoon at Hakuraa Huraa is one of the largest in the Maldives — and one of the shallowest. At low tide, the water can be ankle-deep. You cannot snorkel from the shore. The resort addresses this with two complimentary boat trips daily, at 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, to the house reefs in Meemu Atoll.

Those boat trips deliver reliable sightings: hawksbill turtles, eagle rays, octopus, and a strong diversity of tropical reef fish. Reef sharks (blacktip and whitetip) are common. On dedicated shark snorkeling trips, guests report seeing up to 10 nurse sharks at a time. Manta rays appear occasionally on outer Meemu thilas depending on season. The on-site Dive & Sail centre is a PADI 5-Star operation founded in 1999 — the first water sports centre in Meemu Atoll. Equipment includes SeaQuest BCDs, Aqualung regulators, and Suunto computers. Diving on the atoll’s outer thilas is excellent and uncrowded; Meemu sees a fraction of the dive boats that work North and South Ari Atolls. Night snorkeling is available.

Meemu Atoll has four reef breaks within about 10 minutes by speedboat: Mulah (right), Veyvah (left), Mushrooms (right), and F1 (right). Surf season runs March through October, when both south and east swells reach the atoll. The Dive & Sail centre can arrange surf trips.

Big game fishing trips run at sunrise, sunset, or full-day, targeting wahoo, sailfish, and dorado. Dolphin safari cruises track spinner dolphins in a sunset format. A sunset shark-watching trip visits reef sharks at dusk on a weekly schedule.

The resort launched a private sandbank dining experience — a bespoke arrangement that transports guests to a remote white sand stretch surrounded by the Indian Ocean. It’s designed as a centrepiece for honeymooners and couples prioritizing privacy. Advance booking is essential due to limited slots and weather dependency. Guests coordinate directly with the resort to finalize pricing, menu, and setup.

Non-motorized options include kayaking, windsurfing, canoeing, and lagoon catamaran sailing. The new sports and recreation centre, added in November 2025, includes a covered badminton court, pickleball and tennis courts, and a table tennis hub.

Mandara Spa: Balinese Treatments in the Indian Ocean

The Mandara Spa has four double treatment villas in a Bali-inspired open-air pavilion, all configured as couples suites. It won Best Traditional Healing Spa at the 2026 Luxuri Awards. The signature treatment is a 60-minute Balinese ritual. ELEMIS facial therapy, body scrubs and wraps, and full body massage are also available. Yoga sessions run on an outdoor pavilion — check the schedule on arrival.

Getting There and Choosing Your Meal Plan

Two transfer options from Velana International Airport:

Seaplane: 45 minutes, approximately $486 per person roundtrip. Daylight only — you need to arrive at MLE before 15:15 for same-day transfer. Late arrivals overnight near the airport. Check current seaplane schedules on the airport authority site.

Speedboat: About 2 hours 15 minutes, approximately $235 per person roundtrip. Scheduled departures at 10:00, 13:00, and 17:00.

The resort operates on an all-inclusive basis with two tiers. Classic AI is included in the base rate and covers the Malaafaiy buffet, selected items at Corals and Summer restaurants, house alcohol, and no minibar. Premium AI costs approximately $120 per person per day and adds dine-around access to all four restaurants, premium spirits and sparkling wine, daily minibar restocking, two excursions, and a spa treatment. Guest opinions are divided on whether the upgrade is worth it — many find the Classic package already exceeds expectations.

Additional charges to note: the all-inclusive stops at 12:00 PM on checkout day, with lunch costing $25 per person. The White Party costs $10 per person. Cigarettes run approximately $38 per pack. Drinks at Corals Restaurant are not included even on Premium AI.

Before You Book — Cinnamon Hakuraa Huraa

Is the lagoon really too shallow for snorkeling?

Yes — at low tide the water drops to ankle depth. You cannot reach the reef edge by swimming from shore. The resort runs two free boat trips daily to nearby reefs where the snorkeling is excellent. If you want to step off your villa deck into deep water, this isn’t the right resort.

Is the Premium AI upgrade worth the extra cost?

Premium AI adds about $120 per person per day and unlocks all four restaurants, premium spirits, daily minibar restocking, two excursions, and a spa treatment. Many guests say the Classic AI already delivers good value. If you want the full dine-around experience and branded drinks, Premium makes sense — otherwise, Classic is sufficient.

Which villa type offers the best value?

Beach Bungalows start at approximately $540 per night and give you direct sand access and more privacy. Water Bungalows add glass floor panels and ocean views from about $600+. Platinum Beach Bungalows ($800+) grant access to the private island with its own pool and restaurant. None of the villas has a private pool — confirm current rates directly with the resort before booking.

What happens if my flight arrives after 15:15?

The last seaplane departs around 15:15. If your flight lands later, you’ll need to take the speedboat (scheduled at 10:00, 13:00, and 17:00) or stay overnight near the airport and transfer the next morning. The resort’s new Guest Waiting Lounge, opened November 2025, offers deep seating, tea and coffee, Wi-Fi, and private shower facilities for early arrivals and late departures.
