Guadeloupe: Cheap Rum, Great Food, and Quiet Beaches
Stepping off the plane into the warm Caribbean air felt like a welcome embrace. The customs agent greeted us with a cheerful “Bonsoir!” as seven of us arrived in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe. Some of us hadn’t even heard of this French island, but we were all tired from our demanding jobs in tech, music, and medicine, and desperately needed a break. With flights from New York costing just over $70 each way, it felt like a spontaneous adventure we couldn’t pass up. I’m so glad we took that leap; it turned out to be a fantastic decision.
