It’s one of the “ABC Islands” alongside Aruba and Curaçao, but Bonaire offers a quiet beauty with unspoiled spots that make it feel less explored. It truly holds the crown as the warmest island in the region, with consistently pleasant temperatures year-round, unlike the more humid, rainy weather you might find elsewhere. Plus, it’s globally recognized by PADI as one of the top diving destinations. I recently found some truly idyllic places to stay that made my trip so much better, focusing on great locations, beach access, and fantastic services. You can get there with connecting flights from Curaçao or Aruba, or even direct routes from some major U.S. cities. Just a heads-up, non-residents need to pay a $75 tourist tax upon arrival at the airport, and English and Dutch are spoken here as it’s a Dutch territory.

Belnem House
This boutique hotel is a real find on the southwestern coast, sitting right between Bachelor’s Beach and Donkey Beach. It’s just a minute’s walk from the water and holds a Blue Destination certification, which tells you they’re committed to sustainability. I was really impressed by its awards, like a 2025 Tripadvisor Traveler’s Choice and a mention in National Geographic’s favorite hotels for 2024. It sits at a strong 9.4 on Booking.com, ranking high among accommodations in the area. If you’re looking for peace and quiet away from big resorts, this is it, and it’s perfect for couples as there are no kid-focused facilities.
While Belnem House doesn’t have its own restaurant, each of its 31 apartments and penthouses comes with a fully equipped kitchen and dining area. I loved that every unit has a terrace or balcony, feeling so airy with chic modern décor that featured natural wood and polished concrete. For me, as a freelance writer, it was the perfect spot for a “workation.” They offer reliable, fast Wi-Fi and air conditioning, so I could easily get work done and then step out to the gorgeous beaches. It’s also conveniently located less than a 5-minute drive from the airport and just under 2 miles from Kralendijk, the main town.
A real bonus for me is its affiliation with the PADI 5-star Dive Friends Dive Center, making access to scuba diving incredibly easy. I saw prices for a top-floor apartment for two starting at $748 for 4 nights, which seemed like a great value considering the luxury and location.
Harbour Village Beach Club

What sets it apart is the immediate access to diving and underwater exploration right on the property. It’s ideal for active travelers, families, and anyone passionate about scuba diving or snorkeling. The reviews are consistently glowing, with a 2025 Best of the Best award on Tripadvisor and a 9.1 rating on Booking.com, especially for its location score of 9.7.
Beyond the well-equipped rooms and suites, the hotel offers a full-service restaurant, kayaks, paddleboards, a fitness center, and a spa cascade pool. Beach view rooms require a minimum three-night stay, or seven during peak season, but they guarantee those stunning ocean views and easy access to the white-sand beaches. When Michael and I were planning our trip, this was high on our list for the convenience. It’s perfect for waking up and heading straight for a boat to explore the magnificent reef, teeming with over 350 species of tropical fish.
With the PADI 5-star center Great Adventures Bonaire located right on site, you can literally roll out of bed and onto a dive boat. Bonaire is known as a family-friendly spot, and this place really caters to both diving pros and beginner snorkelers alike. Rates start at $477 per night, including taxes and fees.
Blachi Koko
Tucked away in a quiet residential area, you’re just a 2-minute walk from Flamingo Beach at Blachi Koko. This place has a wonderfully laid-back, local vibe, with a welcoming collection of cottages and apartments. Tripadvisor has rated it as the No. 1 lodge on the island, and I can see why. It’s small and intimate, making it a perfect choice for couples and friends who prefer an independent approach to their vacation rather than a full-service resort experience.
You can stay in your own charming colonial-style private apartment, featuring ocean blue walls and whitewashed wood décor. The family-owned business even has a hut directly on the beach, called Kas Chiki, offering unparalleled views of the turquoise waters. While there’s no restaurant, every apartment has a fully equipped kitchen. Depending on your choice of lodging, you might also enjoy hammocks right on the sand, sun loungers, gazebos, or spacious terraces. It’s located on the southwestern side, offering glimpses of the rugged Klein Bonaire islet.
What I really appreciated is that despite being so close to the sand, Blachi Koko is also just a 12-minute walk to Kralendijk, where you’ll find local shops, oceanfront restaurants, and a lively bar scene. A one-bedroom apartment here starts at $120 per night with a 6-night minimum stay. This felt like a great budget-friendly option that still offered so much character.
The Hut
This adults-only property, The Hut Bonaire, is a fantastic option if you’re looking for a place with a cool vibe and a central location. It’s under a 20-minute walk to explore the beaches and Kralendijk. With a sparkling pool and friendly service, it’s rated 9.5 on Booking.com and No. 2 among small hotels on the island by Tripadvisor. For me, the décor was a standout – described by a guest as “stylish, tasteful décor with smart, practical solutions throughout.”
There are only 16 rooms, offering either hotel-style rooms or studio rooms that sleep up to two people, all with easy access to the pool and courtyard. When evening comes, you don’t even need to go into town for a drink and food, as The Hut has its own Mexican-style restaurant, El Bigote. They serve fresh produce and fish with a Caribbean spin, and the welcoming atmosphere is palpable. When Lily and Ethan were with me on a previous trip to the Caribbean, I always look for places that are maybe a bit more relaxed, and The Hut’s concept definitely appealed to that side of me.
Geared towards the adventurous traveler, you can rent a scooter or car on-site for reasonable prices to explore the island on your own. Just a note: if you plan to visit Washington Slagbaai National Park, cars are not permitted inside. The location is prime, less than two miles from the center of Kralendijk and a mere 4-minute walk to Dive Friends Bonaire on the shore. When I travel, exploring beyond the immediate beach is always high on my list, and from Bamboo Bonaire, it’s only a 12-mile drive north to Washington-Slagbaai National Park.
