Your Nassau Family Fun at Baha Mar

Finding a vacation spot where everyone in the family can truly relax and have a blast, myself included, is always the ultimate goal. Nassau in the Bahamas, specifically the Baha Mar resort, delivered on this promise. This sophisticated tropical destination offers a remarkable blend of activities, from those geared towards kids with incredible pools and programs to spaces where adults can unwind and enjoy themselves, and plenty of opportunities for us to just enjoy being together.

Arriving in Paradise

Getting There and Staying

The dream of a postcard-perfect tropical getaway with clear blue waters and stunning beaches is closer than you might think. For us, flying from the Northeast was under three hours. The convenience continues upon arrival; a quick shuttle ride from the airport gets you to the resort in about ten minutes. It feels like you step from the plane right into vacation mode.

Baha Mar is a sprawling resort complex with three distinct hotels, each offering a different atmosphere but all providing access to the resort’s extensive amenities. We chose to stay at , which perfectly balanced chic design and comfort. The thoughtful touches, like easily accessible charging ports and intuitive lighting controls, made our stay even more pleasant, complemented by warm and attentive service.

For larger groups or longer stays, the residence suites are a fantastic option. They feature spacious living areas, fully equipped kitchens, multiple bathrooms, and laundry facilities, all designed for comfort and convenience. The ability to have the kitchen stocked with essentials before you even arrive is a thoughtful touch that truly enhances the experience.

Resort Life and Activities

Poolside Fun for All

If lounging by the pool is your idea of vacation bliss, Baha Mar is your paradise. With eleven distinct pools, each has its own unique personality and appeal. “Dean’s Blue Hole” is an absolute hit with kids, featuring “cliffs” for adventurous jumps and The Grotto, an aquarium-style viewing area where you can watch marine life swim by below. It’s a truly mesmerizing experience for little ones and adults alike.

Other pools offer different vibes. “Drift” provides a gradual wade-in entry and cool rain shower features, while the “Privilege” pool is known for its lively atmosphere, complete with loud music and oversized floats – perfect for a fun-filled day. For those seeking tranquility, other pools offer a more serene escape, allowing you to truly disconnect and recharge.

One of my favorite moments was watching Lily and Ethan’s sheer delight at the unique pool features. The resort’s thoughtful design ensures there’s a pool for every mood and age group.

Seaside Adventures

Just a short stroll from the pools leads you to the pristine white sands of Cable Beach. The clear, temperate water is inviting for swimming, and the beach is equipped with plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas for relaxation. You can take a leisurely walk along the pier or take advantage of complimentary water sports equipment, including kayaks and snorkeling gear.

My husband, Michael, and I took turns keeping an eye on the kids as they explored the calmer waters near the shore. We loved that snorkeling gear was readily available, allowing us to easily discover the underwater world just steps from our towels. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon without much planning.

What family-friendly water activities are available?

The resort offers a variety of complimentary water accessories for guest use. This includes snorkeling gear, kayaks, and even water hammocks for ultimate relaxation. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy the clear waters of Cable Beach without additional cost.

These water amenities are on a first-come, first-served basis, so I’d recommend heading down to the beach a bit earlier in the day to ensure you get your pick of the activities. It’s worth the slight effort to have access to these fun options.

Kid-Focused Exploration

Beyond the amazing pools and beach, Baha Mar boasts the “Explorers Club,” a dedicated children’s program for ages three to twelve. Led by experienced staff, the activities are engaging and varied, including arts and crafts, wildlife encounters, and themed games. It’s a wonderful way for kids to learn and have fun in a safe environment.

The club offers three sessions daily: morning, afternoon, and evening, with a reasonable fee for participation. For parents needing a break, in-room babysitting services are also available. The daytime sessions are particularly valuable as they include a visit to the resort’s BEACH Sanctuary, an experience that is otherwise a separate charge.

Lily was absolutely thrilled with the crafts and games at the Explorers Club, giving Michael and me a few hours to enjoy some quiet time. Ethan, while a bit young for some activities, enjoyed the animal encounters and the chance to play with children his own age.

Marine Life Encounters

A true highlight of Baha Mar is the BEACH Sanctuary, a remarkable facility housing nurse sharks, sea turtles, stingrays, and a colorful array of tropical fish. It’s an educational and awe-inspiring space that provides a unique glimpse into marine ecosystems.

Guests can join free tours during feeding times twice daily, offering a fascinating opportunity to observe the animals up close. For a more personalized interaction, there are also bookable one-on-one experiences with the marine life. The Grotto pool feature also offers an underwater viewing perspective into this incredible habitat.

Can we see marine animals without booking a special experience?

Yes, you can. The resort offers complimentary tours to the BEACH Sanctuary during feeding times, which occur twice daily. This allows guests to observe the marine life in a naturalistic setting without needing to book an extra activity.

These tours are a fantastic way to learn about the various species and their behaviors from the knowledgeable staff. It’s an engaging experience for all ages and provides a deeper appreciation for marine conservation.

Avian Wonders

The resort’s animal encounters extend beyond the sea. “The Aviary” is a delightful space where you can interact closely with resident birds, often hand-feeding them. It’s a charming and memorable experience that often elicits giggles from children.

Adjacent to it is Flamingo Cay, home to Baha Mar’s flock of vibrant pink flamingos. A must-see is the Flamingo Parade, a daily spectacle led by the resort’s Chief Flamingo Officer. This free event is unique and provides fantastic photo opportunities.

Ethan was mesmerized by the flamingos, especially during the parade. He kept pointing and asking questions, and it was a joy to see his curiosity sparked by these iconic birds.

Adult Leisure and Dining

Grown-Up Getaways

While Baha Mar excels at family fun, it also provides ample opportunities for adult relaxation and entertainment. You can indulge in a pampering treatment at the ESPA spa, enjoy craft cocktails at the SLS rooftop Skybar with its stunning views, or try your luck at the casino, which is not only the largest in the Bahamas but also features unique-panoramic windows.

For golf enthusiasts, the resort boasts a par-72 championship course designed by Jack Nicklaus. And for those looking to indulge in some retail therapy, a collection of high-end boutiques, including Tiffany & Co. and Cartier, alongside fashion brands like Lily Pulitzer and local artisan shops, ensures you can find the perfect souvenir or treat.

What are some adult-focused activities available?

Adults can enjoy a diverse range of activities designed for leisure and enjoyment. This includes treatments at the sophisticated ESPA spa, cocktails with a view at the Skybar, and gaming at the expansive casino.

Additionally, golf enthusiasts can play a round on the world-class Nicklaus-designed course, and shoppers will find a curated selection of luxury and local boutiques to explore.

Culinary Delights

The dining scene at Baha Mar is as diverse as its activities, offering numerous options to satisfy every palate. While dining here is not inexpensive—expect to pay a premium for many items—the quality is consistently excellent. Every restaurant ensures a dedicated kid’s menu is available, a detail that greatly simplifies family dining.

For quick bites or morning coffee, French-inspired Cafe Madeleine or Starbucks are convenient choices. Casual beachside dining is available from charming airstream trailers and stands, offering everything from gourmet burgers and Mexican fare to poke bowls and pan-Latin cuisine.

Beyond casual options, Baha Mar features a selection of “destination dining” restaurants helmed by celebrated chefs. Highlights include Carna by Dario Cecchini for steak lovers and Fi’lia for authentic Italian, where families can even participate in pizza-making experiences. We had a particularly memorable breakfast at Cleo Mediterraneo in the SLS hotel; their Mediterranean offerings were outstanding, especially the bread pudding. A great perk for families: children five and under dine for free at all SLS restaurants during the summer months.

Is dining at Baha Mar family-friendly?

Absolutely. Every restaurant within Baha Mar provides a dedicated children’s menu, ensuring that even the pickiest eaters will find something they enjoy. This makes dining out with kids much more relaxed for parents.

Furthermore, as mentioned, younger children often receive special dining privileges, like eating for free at certain restaurants during specific periods, which is a significant cost saver for families traveling with little ones.

Our visit to Baha Mar in 2026 was a fantastic experience, offering a luxurious yet family-friendly escape. The blend of relaxation, adventure, and culinary excellence makes it a destination that truly caters to everyone, ensuring a memorable vacation for the entire family.
