Seychelles Honeymoon Guide

We are thrilled about our upcoming honeymoon to the Seychelles from November 2nd to 12th! We’ll be splitting our time between two beautiful resorts: Constance Ephelia on Mahe for five nights, followed by five nights at Raffles on Praslin, both on a half-board basis. We love exploring but also want some relaxing resort days given the busy year we’ve had.

Weather Expectations: A Bit of Sunshine and Humidity

We’ve been doing some research on what the weather might be like during our visit, and honestly, we’ve found some mixed information. From what we understand, November generally ushers in the shoulder season in the Seychelles, transitioning from the drier, cooler southeast trade winds to the warmer, wetter northwest monsoon. This typically means we can expect plenty of sunshine, high temperatures, and a fair bit of humidity. We’re hoping for minimal rain, perhaps just a few short, tropical downpours that clear up quickly, leaving behind that fresh, clean scent unique to the tropics. We’re picturing bright, clear skies perfect for lounging by the ocean or venturing out to explore all the islands have to offer. We always pack light, breathable clothing and essentials like sunscreen and hats for tropical climates, so we’re mentally prepared for the heat and humidity.

Exploring Mahe: Beyond the Resort Gates

While staying at Constance Ephelia on Mahe, we’re definitely keen to get out and discover the island’s charm. Mahe is known for its diverse landscapes, from pristine beaches to lush mountainous interiors. One of the first things we want to sort out is transportation. We’re wondering how easy it is to book a car or a moped once we’re there. We’re leaning towards not pre-booking everything to keep our itinerary flexible, but we’re also conscious of not overspending. Is booking through the Constance hotel likely to be significantly more expensive than finding a local rental? We’d love to hear about any experiences with local rental agencies—perhaps a reliable one that offers good rates and service.

When it comes to exploring, we’re really looking forward to discovering some hidden gems for lunch. Beyond the resort’s dining options, we’d love recommendations for authentic local eateries or charming cafes. Imagine stumbling upon a quaint spot by the sea, enjoying freshly caught seafood with a stunning view. We’re open to all sorts of suggestions—whether it’s a bustling market for street food or a quiet, family-run restaurant. For instance, we’ve heard whispers about the vibrant Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market in Victoria, which sounds like a fantastic place to soak in the local culture and grab a bite. Are there any specific dishes we absolutely must try, or any particular areas known for their culinary delights?

Praslin Adventures: Raffles and Beyond

After five nights on Mahe, we’ll hop over to Praslin to stay at Raffles. Praslin, being smaller than Mahe, offers a different kind of charm. We’re eager to explore its famous beaches and perhaps some of its unique natural reserves. Similar to Mahe, we’re wondering about the best ways to get around Praslin. Are car rentals or mopeds readily available? Is it easy to navigate, or are taxis a better option for certain excursions? We’re picturing ourselves driving along scenic coastal roads, stopping whenever a beautiful vista or a tempting beach catches our eye.

Praslin is home to the incredible Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for its native coco de mer palm. This is definitely on our list, and we’re curious about how best to experience it. Are there guided tours available, or is it easy to explore on our own? And after a morning of exploring, where could we grab a delightful lunch? Perhaps a charming spot near Anse Lazio or Anse Georgette, two beaches that consistently rank among the world’s best. We’re always on the lookout for places that offer not just great food but also an unforgettable ambiance.

Cocktails and Budget-Friendly Sips

We both really enjoy a good cocktail or a cold beer, especially after a day of exploring or lounging by the beach. While resort bars are convenient, we’re also keen to find more budget-friendly options to enjoy our drinks without constantly breaking the bank. Are there any local bars, beach shacks, or shops near Constance Ephelia or Raffles Praslin where we could pick up some local beers or enjoy a reasonably priced cocktail? We’d love to hear if anyone has stumbled upon any hidden gems—perhaps a rum shack with a fantastic view or a store that offers a good selection of local beverages. We’re imagining enjoying a sunset drink with a local vibe, soaking in the atmosphere without the resort price tag. We’ve heard that local Seybrew beer is a must-try, and we’re eager to sample it!

Knowing where to find these local spots would be incredibly helpful for managing our honeymoon budget. We’re planning a mix of indulging at the resort and experiencing the local life, so these small tips can make a big difference in our overall experience. We also wonder if there are any happy hour deals or particular days where some local spots offer specials. Any tidbits of information on this front would be greatly appreciated.

FAQs and Tips for a Perfect Seychelles Honeymoon

What is the best way to get around Mahe and Praslin?
On Mahe, renting a car offers the most flexibility to explore at your own pace. You can easily rent one from the airport or through various local agencies. While mopeds are an option, be aware that roads can be winding and sometimes narrow. For Praslin, car rental is also a good choice, especially if you plan to visit multiple beaches and attractions. Taxis are available on both islands but can add up in cost if used frequently. Local buses are a very budget-friendly option, especially on Mahe, but they operate on fixed routes and schedules, which might not always align with a spontaneous exploration agenda.

Are there grocery stores or local shops near Constance Ephelia and Raffles Praslin?
Yes, there are usually local shops and small supermarkets on both Mahe and Praslin where you can purchase snacks, drinks, and other necessities. Near Constance Ephelia, you’ll find a few shops in the surrounding areas, though a short drive might be necessary for larger supermarkets. On Praslin, there are several shops scattered around, particularly near populated areas like Grand Anse and Baie Ste Anne. These local shops are definitely a great way to stock up on budget-friendly beverages and snacks, including local beers.

What kind of local food should we try?
Seychellois cuisine is a delightful blend of Creole, Asian, and European influences, with a strong emphasis on fresh seafood. Must-try dishes include grilled fish, often served with a piquant sauce; octopus curry, a rich and flavorful dish; and various fruit bat curries for the adventurous. Don’t forget to sample local fruits like mangoes, papaya, and passionfruit, and definitely try the fresh fruit juices. For a sweet treat, look for coconut-based desserts. Exploring local markets and small eateries is the best way to experience authentic Seychellois flavors.

Is it safe to drink tap water in the Seychelles?
While the tap water in the Seychelles is generally treated and considered safe to drink in most areas, it’s often recommended for tourists to stick to bottled water to avoid any potential stomach upsets, especially if you have a sensitive stomach. Hotels and resorts typically provide bottled water, and it’s readily available for purchase in shops and supermarkets.

What are some popular activities or excursions we shouldn’t miss?
On Mahe, beyond exploring Victoria and its market, consider a hike in the Morne Seychellois National Park for stunning views, or visit the Tea Factory for a unique insight into local production. For beach lovers, Anse Intendance is incredibly picturesque. On Praslin, a visit to the Vallee de Mai is essential to see the unique coco de mer palm. Also, take a boat trip to the nearby island of La Digue to experience its iconic Anse Source d’Argent beach, famous for its granite boulders, and explore the island by bicycle. Snorkeling and diving are also fantastic activities given the vibrant marine life.

What should we pack for our honeymoon?
Expect tropical weather, so pack light, breathable clothing like linen and cotton. Swimwear, hats, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen are essential. Comfortable walking shoes or sandals for exploring are a must, along with a pair of reef shoes if you plan to explore rocky beaches. A light rain jacket or umbrella is advisable for sudden tropical showers. Don’t forget insect repellent, especially for evenings, and any personal medications. A universal travel adapter might also be useful.

Seychelles Food Locals Eat Daily

My three-week holiday, which is soon coming to an end, has left me with a significant food-related disappointment. Days into the trip, I found myself missing home, and the primary reason was the food. We explored local restaurants, takeaways, luxury dining, and even fast-food joints, yet not a single meal left me with that “Wow, this is 10/10” feeling. Even our attempts at cooking with ingredients from various stores, big and small, yielded consistently low-quality results. This consistent letdown made me question how locals manage their culinary lives. A Culinary Labyrinth of Low Quality My kitchen adventures began with

Seychelles Trip 2025: Top Spots & Hotels

Planning a trip to the Seychelles from June 23, 2025, to July 10, 2025, naturally had me thinking about one thing above all else: avoiding the dreaded wind and seaweed that can sometimes mar the otherwise pristine beaches. My primary goal was to find those serene spots where the water remains calm and clear, offering the idyllic postcard-perfect experience we all dream of when picturing this tropical paradise. Navigating the Winds and Waves My research into the Seychelles’ weather patterns for late June and early July quickly revealed that this period falls within the southeast trade winds season. This

Seychelles Bully or Plug

I recently embarked on a linguistic quest, diving into the evocative world of Seychellois author Antoine Abel. My personal mission was to translate a particular excerpt from his work, Coco Sec, a passage depicting workers taking a much-needed respite from their labors. The sentence that proved to be a delightful puzzle was: “Ensuite, les hommes prennent leur pipe, chique, butor ou prise.” The Linguistic Labyrinth: Unpacking “Butor ou Prise” My translation journey began smoothly enough. “Pipe” was straightforward, and “chique” quickly revealed itself as chewing tobacco, a common indulgence among laborers in various cultures. The translation of this part
