Jayhawks play in Hawaii tournament.

The vibrant greens of Hawaii are calling, and our Jayhawks are ready to answer! The Kansas women’s golf team is heading to the stunning island of Kauai for the 2025 Rainbow Wahine Invitational. We’ll be competing at the picturesque Ocean Course at Hokuala from October 20th to 22nd. It feels like just yesterday we were celebrating their recent victory at the Marilyn Smith Invitational, and now they’re poised to carry that winning spirit all the way to the Pacific, wrapping up a truly successful fall season.

A Tropical Golf Dream

Picture this: the warm Hawaiian sun on your face, a gentle ocean breeze, and a challenging golf course spread out before you. That’s exactly what awaits the Jayhawks at the Ocean Course at Hokuala. This beautiful par-72, 6,039-yard layout is set to test every aspect of their game. It’s such an inspiring setting for a competition, and I can already feel the excitement building.

Our Jayhawks have been playing exceptionally well, and this event is a wonderful chance for them to showcase their skills on a brand new stage. There’s a special kind of energy when you play in a place like Hawaii; it’s invigorating and elevates the entire experience.

Coach’s Hawaiian Delight

Coach Lindsay Kuhle is absolutely beaming about this trip to Kauai, and honestly, who wouldn’t be?

She mentioned that this is a first for the team during her time leading them, which makes it even more memorable. “It’ll be fun to go to a new state and to conclude our successful fall season,” she shared. Coach Kuhle is wisely focusing on ending the fall on a high note. “We need to dig deep and compete to our best in our last tournament of the fall, so we can say we had a great fall.” Her approach is all about seizing this final opportunity to perform at their peak.

A Competitive Gathering

The Rainbow Wahine Invitational is shaping up to be quite the event, bringing together a robust 19-team field. Alongside our host, Hawaii, we’ll see teams from all over, including: Tulane, Baylor, Missouri, Cal State Long Beach, Santa Clara, Kennesaw State, Eastern Michigan, San Diego State, Nevada, Boise State, Wyoming, Washington State, Idaho, Osaka Gakuin, Grand Canyon, Sacramento State, and BYU. It’s quite the mix of talent!

This diverse lineup, with teams from various conferences and even an international competitor from Japan, promises three days of thrilling and challenging golf. I always love seeing how different teams approach a course, and this variety makes for such an engaging tournament to follow.

The Rhythm of Play

Our Jayhawks will tee off bright and early with a 2:30 p.m. CT shotgun start on Monday, October 20th. We’ll be back at it for another shotgun start on Tuesday, October 21st, this time at 2 p.m. CT. The tournament unfolds over 54 holes, with 18 holes played each day.

This consistent rhythm is fantastic for the players. It allows them to settle into their game and build momentum throughout each round. Knowing the schedule helps me map out my own viewing, looking forward to each day’s progress.

Meet the Jayhawk Stars

Coach Kuhle has selected a lineup that balances seasoned experience with emerging talent. Here’s who will be proudly representing Kansas:

Amy DeKock (Senior): As team captain, Amy brings a steady hand and consistent performance, always leading by example.

Anna Wallin (Senior): Fresh off a strong finish in her last event, Anna is looking to carry that momentum right into Hawaii.

Lyla Louderbaugh (Junior): Lyla has been a picture of consistency this fall, notching multiple top-five finishes.

Ebba Nordstedt (Sophomore): Having just secured her first collegiate win, Ebba is definitely a player to watch closely.

Jillian Fatkin (Sophomore): Jillian also delivered a solid performance in her most recent individual outing.

And let’s not forget freshman Marieke Ebens, who will be competing as an individual. This is such a valuable opportunity for her to gain experience on a challenging course and gain confidence.

Player Spotlights: Those to Watch

Let’s dive a little deeper into some of the standout performances we’ve seen from our Jayhawks this fall.

Ebba Nordstedt’s Winning Momentum

Ebba Nordstedt is stepping onto the Hawaiian course with an incredible wave of confidence, and for good reason!

She recently claimed her very first collegiate victory at the Marilynn Smith Invitational in early October. That performance was nothing short of spectacular, and she’s been riding that triumphant energy ever since. Her current stroke average is an impressive 72.8 over nine rounds, which actually includes a fantastic round in the 60s! Plus, her 54-hole score of 207 is a testament to her remarkable consistency. I’ll be watching Ebba with so much anticipation, eager to see if she can recreate that magic under the Hawaiian sun.

Lyla Louderbaugh’s Stellar Junior Year

Our junior, Lyla Louderbaugh, is truly having a season to remember.

She leads the team with two top-five finishes this fall and has consistently placed in the top 20 across four events. This kind of reliable performance is such a huge asset for any team. Lyla has also recorded a round in the 60s this season and maintains a strong scoring average of 72.8 over 12 rounds. Her ability to perform under pressure and stay competitive is invaluable.

Amy DeKock’s Consistent Leadership

As team captain, senior Amy DeKock has set a remarkably high bar for herself and the team this fall.

Her average score of 72.8 is no small feat, especially with a round in the 60s included. She kicked off the fall season with a win at the Jayhawk Invitational and has since added two more top-10 finishes to her name. What’s truly impressive is her unwavering consistency; Amy has finished within the top 20 in every single event she’s played this fall. Her leadership and steady play are absolutely crucial as the team navigates the challenges in Hawaii.

Anna Wallin Aiming High

Anna Wallin is also coming off a powerful performance at the Marilynn Smith Invitational, where she captured an impressive eighth-place finish.

This adds to her collection of two top-10 finishes this season. With a scoring average of 75.3 over nine rounds, Anna consistently proves her ability to compete at a high level. She’s clearly focused on delivering another strong showing and contributing significantly to the team’s goals in Lihue.

Young Talent Shines Bright

We’re also seeing incredible promise from our younger players, sophomore Jillian Fatkin and freshman Marieke Ebens. Both golfers recently competed individually at the Big O Classic and delivered top-20 finishes. Marieke, in particular, had a fantastic showing, earning her first career top 10 with a brilliant sixth-place finish! Jillian wasn’t far behind, securing 13th place. Their individual successes highlight the exciting depth and future of the Kansas golf program.
