My husband Michael and I always dreamed of a honeymoon that felt just as special as our actual wedding. For years, we’ve treated every trip like a romantic getaway, seeking out those quiet moments and beautiful settings. Looking back through our travel photos, I realized we’ve been lucky enough to experience many incredible destinations that would make perfect honeymoon spots. From relaxing on pristine beaches to exploring ancient ruins, the world offers so many romantic adventures. Let me share some of our favorite finds, places that truly deliver on the promise of an unforgettable escape.
Romantic Island Escapes
Bora Bora Tahiti
Bora Bora is often called the most romantic place on Earth, and it’s easy to see why. The shimmering turquoise water and lush green volcanic peaks create a scene straight out of a dream. We loved staying in an overwater bungalow, waking up each morning to uninterrupted views of the lagoon. It felt incredibly private, the perfect place to just relax and reconnect.
The resorts here truly cater to couples, offering everything from private plunge pools to romantic dinners on the beach. Snorkeling in the protected lagoon was an absolute highlight, with so much colorful marine life to discover.
What makes Bora Bora romantic?
The sheer beauty of the natural surroundings, combined with the unparalleled luxury of the resorts, creates an atmosphere of pure romance. The sense of seclusion on the motus allows for true intimacy.
For us, the highlight was a sunset cruise, watching the sky turn fiery orange as we sipped champagne. It was one of those perfect travel moments you treasure forever.
Maldives Experiences
Stepping onto a private island in the Maldives felt like entering another world entirely. The overwater bungalows are designed for ultimate romance, with direct access to the ocean and incredible views. It’s a place where you can truly disconnect and focus on each other.
While pure relaxation is definitely an option – ordering room service and enjoying the peace – there are also plenty of adventurous activities. Scuba diving and snorkeling here are world-class, and we even enjoyed a private island picnic.
Best time to visit the Maldives
The dry season, from November to April, offers the most consistently beautiful weather, making it ideal for enjoying all the island has to offer.
We found the quiet stillness of the Maldives incredibly restorative. Even with the kids, Michael and I could find moments of quiet solitude, a rare treat.
Turks and Caicos Beaches
Turks and Caicos offers a Caribbean escape with some of the most stunning beaches we’ve ever seen. Grace Bay Beach is consistently ranked among the world’s best, and for good reason. The sand is impossibly soft and white, and the water is a dazzling shade of turquoise.
This destination feels a bit more understated and peaceful than some other popular Caribbean spots. It’s perfect for couples looking for relaxation and a sense of intimacy without being overwhelmed by crowds.
What are Turks and Caicos beaches like?
Expect miles of powdery white sand and crystal-clear, calm waters perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The clarity of the water is simply breathtaking.
We loved spending our days simply walking along the shore, feeling the soft sand between our toes. It was a simple pleasure, but incredibly romantic.
Cultural and Scenic Honeymoon Destinations
Amalfi Coast Italy
The Amalfi Coast is a place that truly lives up to its reputation. Driving along the winding coastal road, with dramatic cliffs plunging into the sparkling Mediterranean Sea and colorful villages clinging to the hillsides, is an unforgettable experience. Positano, in particular, is a stunning sight, with its pastel-colored houses cascading down to the water.
Beyond the breathtaking views, the towns offer charming streets to wander, delicious food to savor, and historical sites to explore. We enjoyed indulging in fresh seafood and local wines, a perfect culinary complement to the scenery.
Popular towns on the Amalfi Coast
Iconic destinations include Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello, each offering its own unique charm and spectacular vistas. Each town has a distinct character waiting to be discovered.
Taking a private boat trip along the coast and stopping for a swim in a secluded cove was a highlight. It felt like our own private exploration of paradise.
Venice Italy
Venice is undeniably one of the most romantic cities in the world. Getting lost in its labyrinthine canals and narrow, winding streets is an adventure in itself. A gondola ride is a classic romantic experience, a must-do for any couple visiting the city.
Beyond the canals, the city is filled with history and art. Strolling through St. Mark’s Square, visiting the Doge’s Palace, and exploring the nearby islands of Murano and Burano all add to the magic. The unique atmosphere of Venice is unlike anywhere else.
Things to do in Venice

Even with our children, the magic of Venice was evident. They were fascinated by the boats and the absence of cars, and Michael and I cherished the moments of quiet shared amidst the old-world charm.
Udaipur India
Udaipur, often called the “City of Lakes” and the “Venice of the East,” is a truly enchanting destination. The city is built around stunning lakes, with majestic palaces seemingly floating on the water. Lake Pichola is the heart of the city, and a sunset boat ride here offers some of the most romantic views imaginable.
The architecture is incredible, with grand palaces and intricate details. Exploring the City Palace complex gives you a glimpse into royal life, and the gardens offer a serene escape from the bustling city. It’s a place that feels steeped in history and romance.

Take a sunset boat ride on Lake Pichola, explore the City Palace, and enjoy cultural performances. The views over the lake at dusk are particularly magical.

We took a guided hike through the rainforest, and seeing Ethan’s face light up when a monkey swung through the trees was priceless. It’s those family moments, even during a trip meant for romantic escapes, that make travel so rewarding.
Iceland’s Natural Wonders
Iceland, the land of fire and ice, offers a truly unique honeymoon experience for adventurous couples. Its dramatic landscapes, from geysers and glaciers to powerful waterfalls and black sand beaches, are unlike anywhere else on Earth.
Witnessing the Northern Lights is an incredibly romantic and magical experience to share. Driving the Golden Circle and exploring the stunning natural formations provides constant awe and wonder. It’s a place that makes you feel small in the best possible way.
Visiting Iceland in 2026
For optimal access to all areas and pleasant weather, the summer months of June to August are ideal. However, for the chance to see the Northern Lights, the dark winter months from late September to early April offer the best viewing opportunities.
While it was just Michael and I on this particular trip, I could easily imagine bringing the kids to see the glaciers and geysers. It’s a place that sparks curiosity in all ages.
Relaxing Beach Honeymoons
Santorini Views
Santorini is simply breathtaking. The iconic white-washed villages perched on the cliffs overlooking the caldera create a postcard-perfect scene. Staying in a cave hotel offers a unique and romantic experience, and the sunsets here are legendary.
The island offers a good mix of relaxation and exploration. You can spend your days lounging by infinity pools, exploring charming villages, and enjoying delicious Greek cuisine. The black and red sand beaches add to its unique appeal.

Enjoy a sunset cruise, indulge in couples spa treatments, and savor local wines and cuisine. The views alone are incredibly romantic.
Michael and I found ourselves just sitting on our balcony for hours, taking in the view. It was a simple act, but incredibly peaceful and romantic, a reminder of why we travel together.

Bermuda is a bit of an underrated gem for honeymooners. Its famous pink sand beaches, like Horseshoe Bay, are stunningly beautiful and offer a wonderfully romantic setting. The colorful colonial architecture adds to the island’s charm.
It’s a destination that combines relaxation with opportunities for exploration. Renting a scooter to discover hidden coves and scenic spots is a fun way to experience the island. The clear blue waters are perfect for swimming and water sports.
