These places often have a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for enjoying fresh seafood with a beautiful backdrop. It’s always a good idea to ask locals for their favorites, as some of the best culinary treasures are off the beaten path and not always heavily advertised online.

Seafood and Ribs by Seven Mile Beach

One of our first stops was Duke’s Seafood and Rib Shack, conveniently located across from Public Beach on Seven Mile Beach. The island vibe here is instantly welcoming. We indulged in the Sweet Maui Ribs, which were incredibly flavorful, and a standout Thai steam pot brimming with fresh crab, shrimp, and lobster. My husband, Michael, and I also shared a plate of their crabby fries, a rich and indulgent treat. Even the kids enjoyed sampling the different dishes without much fuss.

It felt like the kind of place where everyone is simply enjoying good food and good company.

Affordable Bites on the Northside

After a fun stingray excursion, Kurt’s Korner in Old Man Bay on the Northside offered a perfect, casual lunch stop. This place feels like a true local gem. We savored some delicious conch and crab patties to start, followed by hearty main courses. The grouper curry was rich and satisfying, and the grilled fish special was cooked to perfection.

I’m a big fan of oxtail, and theirs was exceptionally tender and flavorful. My husband enjoyed the fried snapper, which was perfectly crispy on the outside and wonderfully flaky within. This is the kind of place where you feel completely at home.

Kaibo, found at Rum Point, is a truly special place, especially for sunset. You can reach it via a high-speed ferry from Camana Bay, which adds to the sense of adventure. The restaurant has a relaxed, local beach vibe that encourages you to slow down and simply soak in the scenery. It’s also the spot for that iconic pier view of Grand Cayman that you see in so many photos.

Ocean-to-Table Freshness

Morgan’s Seafood Restaurant, highly recommended by a local we met, offers a true ocean-to-table experience. They pride themselves on serving only freshly caught local fish, often sourced daily by their own fishermen. Dining al fresco along the water was an absolute pleasure. If you visit during lobster and conch season (typically November to April), be sure to indulge in the abundant shellfish available.

We enjoyed a flavorful mahi mahi Thai fish curry one evening, paired with a delightful local cocktail. The restaurant also emphasizes farm-to-table principles, ensuring the freshest produce.

The Teppanyaki Experience at Mizu is an entertaining dinner involving a fire show from the chef while your food is prepared.

However, the highlight of our visit to Mizu was undoubtedly the Teppanyaki Experience. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a captivating performance with a chef-led fire show and skillful chopping demonstrations right before your eyes. It was an evening of fun and delicious food, with the added bonus of overlooking the Camana Bay Marina.

Intimate Flavors in George Town

In George Town, The Brasserie stands out as a charming, upscale restaurant. Its intimate setting offers outstanding service and a menu filled with delightful surprises. You might be surprised to find a grilled cheese on the menu, but theirs is exceptional, made with truffle, brie, and homemade jam. The smoked fish dip was also a hit, as was the fresh tomato and burrata salad. For dessert, the crème brûlée and sticky coffee date pudding were heavenly.
