It’s always a thrill when our favorite teams take their talents to new and exciting destinations. This year, St. John’s Women’s Basketball is heading to the absolutely beautiful Cayman Islands for their third annual Classic. They’re scheduled to play against Georgia Tech and Memphis, and I can just picture the turquoise waters and the sound of the ball hitting the hardwood. It feels like the perfect way to spend Thanksgiving week, blending family time with some top-tier athletic competition.
Island Hopping for Hardwood Action
The Cayman Islands Classic is such a unique event. It brings together eight talented teams for a couple of days of intense play, all set against the backdrop of paradise. George Town on Grand Cayman is the host city, with the games being held at the John Gray Gymnasium. It’s quite something to think about our Johnnies, usually playing closer to home, now competing in such an exotic locale. The timing, right around Thanksgiving, makes it feel extra special – a wonderful escape from the usual crisp autumn air.
This year’s tournament is set to take place on November 28th and 29th. It’s a fantastic excuse for anyone who loves basketball and beautiful scenery to plan a trip. I always find that traveling to these events with family adds so many layers to the experience. The kids get to see a different part of the world, and we all get to bond over cheering for the team.
Kicking Off Against Georgia Tech
St. John’s is slated to play their first game against Georgia Tech on Friday, November 28th, at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. There’s a history between these two programs, which always makes a matchup even more compelling. They’re actually tied one and one in their previous meetings. You can bet
