Westin Bora Bora: Relax, luxury, paradise.

That’s beyond belief,” my husband declared the moment he saw the picture I’d sent. He knew it wasn’t a fabrication, but his reaction perfectly echoed my own awe since arriving. How could such a stunning scene possibly be real?

An Overwater Sanctuary Awash in Color

This new Westin property truly feels like a dream made tangible. It’s been a while since a new resort graced this special island, and this one has been masterfully reimagined. The transformation from its previous life is remarkable.

Out of the 142 bungalows available, an impressive 128 are perched directly over the water. This is said to be the highest number of any resort in Bora Bora, and you truly feel immersed.

My Bungalow Experience

Stepping into my overwater bungalow was like entering a serene, modern haven. The decor felt fresh and clean, with crisp white tones and elegantly crafted wood pieces. Subtle, beautiful touches of island artistry completed the tranquil feel.

A welcoming staff member guided me through everything. They showed me the ins and outs of the various lighting settings and explained the easy-to-use Bluetooth system for my music. The bungalow also had a dedicated dressing area, a cozy spot to sit back, and a wonderfully spacious, contemporary bathroom.

This bathroom offered a sleek double vanity, a generous walk-in shower, and a deep soaking tub that practically begged for a long, relaxing bath.

What truly sets these bungalows apart are their incredibly spacious layouts and chic, modern design. They also feature some of the largest glass floor panels on the entire island, offering a captivating window to the underwater world below.

But the real magic was the direct connection to the breathtaking outdoors. A massive patio, visible through floor-to-ceiling glass doors, invited me out. It was furnished with comfortable lounge chairs and, most wonderfully, a ladder leading straight into the turquoise ocean.

Adding to the luxury, many of these overwater bungalows come with a private plunge pool. I initially wondered how much I’d use it, with the vast Pacific right there. Yet, I found myself always ending my ocean swims with a refreshing dip in its cool water. It was the perfect spot to simply relax, gazing at the endless shades of blue in the lagoon.

The bungalows are equipped with exceptionally large glass floor windows, reputedly the biggest you’ll find here. I admit, on my very first evening, I found myself simply sitting on the floor, utterly mesmerized by the marine life gliding beneath my feet. While the water directly below was quite deep with a sandy bottom, meaning fewer fish immediately visible, patience was rewarded.

A graceful stingray eventually made its appearance, a truly magical moment that felt like a secret gift.

Beyond the stunning views and indulgent amenities, the bungalows exude a profound connection to Bora Bora’s natural splendor. Waking up to the gentle rhythm of the waves and watching the sunrise illuminate the lagoon from your bed is an indescribable feeling.

I also cherished the small details: the crisp, fresh linens and the thoughtful turndown service each evening. These little touches amplified the feeling of being truly pampered. The craftsmanship, from the local art pieces to the high-quality finishes, made the bungalow feel like a personal sanctuary.

Living above the water fostered a unique sense of peace. Time seemed to slow down as I watched the play of light on the ocean’s surface or observed the occasional curious fish dart by. Despite being part of a resort, the bungalow offered a remarkable feeling of privacy, a true escape into my own world.

Dining Delights with Panoramic Vistas

While my bungalow was an irresistible retreat, I made sure to explore the rest of this magnificent resort. The Westin is situated in a truly prime spot on Bora Bora’s lagoon, offering spectacular, unobstructed views of the majestic Mount Otemanu from its wide beaches and inviting pool areas.

I found myself drawn to Varavara restaurant every day for lunch, soaking in those incredible vistas. My meals often featured the local delicacy, poisson cru—fresh raw fish marinated in coconut milk—or a perfectly prepared Caesar salad. Their fresh fish burger became another favorite.

For breakfast, Tipanier offered a lovely buffet experience. In the evenings, it transformed into a charming bistro serving French Polynesian cuisine. A small but important tip from my travels: don’t skip the fresh fruit juices at breakfast. The passionfruit and mango were particularly divine.

However, the standout dining experience was at Maere. This restaurant offers a unique rotating set menu, with different themes each night. This ensures every visit brings something new and exciting to the table.

When I sat down, the waiter presented the evening’s menu, but kindly encouraged me to embrace the surprise. Following his advice was a fantastic decision. I learned about each of the five courses only as they arrived at my table.

One memorable evening, the theme was inspired by “street food along Asian markets.” The meal began with delicate steamed root vegetable dumplings served with a bowl of fragrant pho. A later course featured tender mahi mahi paired beautifully with spicy kimchi and a sweet banana chutney. Dessert was an artful trio of infused fruits, a light Japanese cheesecake, and a refreshing guava granita.

Other themed nights at Maere promise equally exciting culinary journeys, from celebrating the “Bora Bora fisherman’s catch” to exploring Italian classics and vibrant Mediterranean flavors. It truly felt like a culinary adventure around the globe, right there in paradise.

The entire dining journey at The Westin was a delightful exploration. Each meal felt like a celebration, with the freshest ingredients and creative presentations elevating the experience. The staff across all the restaurants were incredibly attentive and knowledgeable, always happy to offer recommendations or share insights into the local specialties.

One evening, at Maere, I savored a beautifully presented dish that commenced with an exquisite array of delicate sushi and sashimi bites, a perfect start to an unforgettable meal.

Resort Life: Relaxation and Discovery

The sheer expanse and beauty of The Westin’s beachfront were truly impressive. It’s generously outfitted with comfortable loungers and umbrellas, perfect for any style of relaxation. This prime area also boasts a stunning infinity-edge pool, complete with plentiful cabanas and inviting seating. A convenient swim-up bar ensures you never have to stray too far from the water.

Throughout the resort, you’ll find complimentary sunscreen and soothing aloe vera. Snorkel masks and fins are also readily available for guests to borrow, perfect for exploring the vibrant underwater world.

Beyond simply lounging, the resort offers various activities. Kayaking and paddleboarding are wonderful ways to explore the calm lagoon at your own pace. For those interested in local culture, there are opportunities to try your hand at flower-crown weaving or even learn traditional Tahitian dance, which always brings a smile to my face.

Of course, The Westin is renowned for its signature wellness amenities. This includes a state-of-the-art WestinWorkout Fitness Center and the tranquil Heavenly Spa, both designed to help guests recharge and find their inner peace.

A truly special element of the resort, and something that deeply moved me, is the on-site Eco Center Bora Bora. This center is completely dedicated to the vital work of protecting sea turtles. Established many years ago, its focus is on conservation, education, raising awareness, and the rehabilitation of sick or injured marine life.

Guests are warmly welcomed to visit the center’s viewing area to catch a glimpse of the turtles swimming. Even better, you can book activities like the daily feeding. During my visit, I not only learned about the dedicated team’s important work but also had the immense joy of watching the turtles eagerly enjoy their meal.

Witnessing the profound care and dedication given to these precious marine creatures was incredibly heartwarming. It resonated with the exceptional service I, too, was experiencing throughout the entire resort property.

While our circumstances were quite different, I couldn’t help but imagine that the turtles were enjoying their time at The Westin Bora Bora almost as much as I was. The resort’s commitment to sustainability and embracing local culture genuinely stood out.

It wasn’t solely about luxurious comfort; it was also about a deep respect for the environment and a meaningful engagement with the community. This aspect added a rich layer of depth and purpose to my stay.

The wide array of available activities meant there was always something engaging to do, whether I felt energetic or simply wanted to unwind. The staff, from the moment you arrive at the front desk to the coordinators of the activities, were consistently friendly and exceptionally helpful. Every interaction was a genuine pleasure and contributed to an atmosphere where every guest truly felt valued and exceptionally well cared for.
