Aruba, truly the “One Happy Island,” has a special place in my heart. It’s not just the perfect weather, the clear blue water, or the delicious food that brings me back. It’s the people. Their genuine joy and easygoing nature make every visit feel like coming home. This island is a vibrant mix of cultures, which you can taste in the food and feel in the air. The local language, Papiamento, adds to its unique charm, making Aruba a destination I cherish.
A Solo Escape to Paradise
My recent trip was a solo adventure dedicated to luxurious relaxation. From the moment I stepped off the plane, everything felt smooth and designed for pure comfort. Staying at a new resort truly elevated the experience, making it unforgettable.
Day 1: A Welcoming Start
A quick taxi ride from the airport led me to the beautiful St. Regis hotel on Palm Beach. It’s a wonderful blend of lush gardens, modern design, and a cozy, welcoming feel, all wrapped in luxury. After a refreshing watermelon drink in the lobby, I was shown to my penthouse suite – an incredible way to begin the trip!
My first meal was at Nuba, one of the hotel’s restaurants right by the beach. This was just the start of my love for their al pastor tacos; they were a perfect introduction to the island’s flavors.
I spent a few hours soaking up the sun on the beach, enjoying a delicious guava margarita. As evening approached, it was time for dinner. A short taxi ride took me to Papiamento Restaurant. This place is truly special, set in the garden of a historic home surrounded by lush plants, with a beautiful pool in the center. The atmosphere was unlike anything I’d experienced before.
Papiamento is known for its grilled dishes, served on a hot stone. I chose a wonderfully tender steak, accompanied by creamy potatoes au gratin and fresh vegetables. It was a perfect and picturesque end to my first day.
Day 2: Pure Relaxation
I woke up around 8 AM and treated myself to an iced latte and a chocolate croissant from the hotel café – they are absolutely divine. I enjoyed them on my balcony, looking out at the calm Palm Beach. Dressed comfortably, I headed to the St. Regis Spa for a massage.
The spa was a haven of peace. It’s the kind of place where you could easily spend an entire day, exploring the cold plunge pools, saunas, and steam rooms. But my next stop was my poolside cabana, ready for more unwinding.
The cabana was the ultimate in comfort. It had a huge bed, complete with adjustable curtains and plush pillows and towels. Here, I enjoyed a fresh fruit platter, more delicious tacos from Nuba, and refreshing guava margaritas as the day turned into evening.
For dinner, I dined at the lovely Wilhelmina Restaurant. I chose to sit outside again, this time in a garden softly lit by lamps, surrounded by colorful plants. I savored a tender ‘lady steak’ as my main course and finished with a rich chocolate lava cake. This restaurant truly impressed me and is, for me, the best I’ve found in Aruba.
Day 3: A Sunset Farewell
My final day in paradise began with a wonderful breakfast buffet at Nuba. I enjoyed eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, and toast, alongside my essential iced latte. The quality of the food at the hotel, from pastries to full meals, was consistently excellent.
I spent the morning reading and swimming in the ocean. Later, I decided to take a leisurely stroll down Palm Beach for a healthy lunch. Walking along the beach is one of my favorite things to do in Aruba; it’s perfect for watching people and getting some exercise. I stopped at Eduardo’s Beach Shack, a cheerful spot by the water offering everything from wraps and smoothies to salads and poke bowls. I picked up an açaí bowl and returned to my favorite spot on the beach for more relaxation.
Before sunset, I joined a Bloody Mary mixing class at the hotel bar. It was fascinating to learn that the Bloody Mary originated at the St. Regis in New York City many years ago. What’s even more interesting is that each St. Regis hotel creates its own unique Bloody Mary, featuring local ingredients. The Aruban version, made with a special papaya hot sauce that’s unique to the island, was wonderfully flavorful. I highly recommend this class if you’re staying at the resort.
For my last evening, I enjoyed a breathtaking sunset catamaran cruise. We sailed along Palm Beach to a quiet, colorful cove. With a drink in hand, I watched the sky change from dusk to night, reflecting on my incredible trip to Aruba. It was the perfect way to say goodbye to the “One Happy Island.”
By the time I got back to my room, I was beautifully sun-kissed and happily tired. I decided to order room service, and the steak frites were absolutely perfect. Soon after, I was drifting off to sleep, my last night on this dreamy trip.
I honestly didn’t think my trips to Aruba could get any more enjoyable or relaxing, but this stay at the St. Regis proved me wrong. The combination of incredible service, delicious food, consistently beautiful weather, and a stunning new hotel made this trip truly special – an experience I won’t forget.
So, until next time, happy island; I suspect I won’t be away for long!
